SHRIEKS AND SHRILLS FROM COMMUNITIES WHICH ARE FAST SHRINKING. – PART I.
…FEW SUCCESSFUL CHINESE AND TAMIL WITH VENACULAR MANDARIN AND TAMIL SCHOOL BACKGROUNDS ARE MAKING IT AS THOUGH THESE SCHOOLS ARE GOOD FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES WHEN FACTS PROVE THAT MANY CHINESE AND TAMIL STUDENTS DROP OUT OF SUCH SCHOOLS EARLY.

CAN’T THE CHINESE, TAMIL AND MELAYU EXPERTS IN EDUCATION SIT DOWN TO DISCUSS THIS MATTER ONCE AND FOR ALL, SO THAT IT DOES NOT GIVE RISE TO UNNECESSARY ISSUES AND PROLONGING CONTROVERSIES WHEN THERE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE NONE?
IN THE COUNTRIES IN THE WEST, THEY READILY EMBRACE THE LOCAL CULTURE, SPEAK AND STUDY IN THE LOCAL SCHOOLS AND EVEN HAVE LOCAL NAMES.
BUT IN MALAYSIA THEN WANT TO REMAIN AS THOUGH THEY ARE STILL IN CHINA OR INDIA.
Can’t this matter be discussed openly and excluding sentiments and emotions, not by politicians who like to play the ‘racial cards’ but by experts, by also taking into account the state the Chinese and Tamils in America and other developed countries are in and how they behave there?
This is so when the Chinese and Tamils who emigrated to other countries, they immediately behave properly and do not make unusual demands on the governments of those countries, who do not treat them better than when they were in Malaysia.
How much does America and the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand and the other developed countries many Chinese and Tamils or Indians in Malaysia look up to and want to go to live, allocate to their communities there?
Did the Chinese and Tamil communities truly benefited from their vernacular schools?
There are so few of them who are successful and they are the ones who are in the government.
Those who are not, are mostly in the commercial sector, which for now is still being dominated by the Chinese.
But their future in the private sector is not going to be permanent as it has forced many Melayu to go into this sector too since the non-Melayu have been hectoring for the government to open up the public sector for them.
At the same time, more and more Melayu are interested to go into the private sector as the market for things Melayu and the consumer base for them has expanded.
So it won’t be long before the Melayu dominate the private sector as well as the public sector by virtue of the size of their population.
These Chinese and Tamil community and political leaders neglect to say that they did not pursue their university education at the universities in china, Hong Kong or Taiwan and in India that have mandarin and Tamil as their medium of instruction.
All of them studied at the universities in the country where the medium of instruction is Melayu, for which they are using a lot more in the course of their daily official duties.
Without this, they won’t be turned to parliament or sit in the cabinet or even hold top posts in their political parties in the government or the opposition.
So few successful Chinese and Tamils are not good reasons for the sustenance of their vernacular schools, when the facts are so obvious and stacked against them.
How many of the Chinese and Tamils in Malaysia who have vernacular Mandarin and Tamil schools are marketable in Hong Kong, Taiwan, china and India?
Yet, many are saying that the two countries are emerging giants, yet, not many Malaysian of Chinese and Tamil origins are in demand in those countries.
And where in the world has the government provided a single sen or an inch of land to their Chinese and Tamil communities? Only Malaysia does that.
Most of the students of the vernacular schools drop out early and they are the ones who feel inferior for not being able to relate to the others and in Melayu or English well.
There are so few successful ones. And they are the ones who have managed to get university education in the national schooling system and who want to make it seem that their vernacular schools are good for their communities.
Many drop out of such schools so early so they do not have much of a future and not being able to speak much Melayu or English. They are in the world of their own spending too much time watching films and television programs and listening to music from Hong Kong or India.
And those who are successful, and who enter the publishing world, will use the opportunity to over-promote Hong Kong and India, even if they work for publications in the English language.
If one attends any public function, formal or informal, chances are there are so few Chinese or Tamil who have vernacular mandarin or Tamil school background.
The Jomheboh function organized by tv3 and similar events organized by RTM and the government ministries and agencies including those organized by private companies also face similar problems.
Those with Mandarin and Tamil school backgrounds find themselves outnumbered and outsmarted.
So they end up living amongst themselves in their little confines which are getting tighter and tighter everyday, as the Melayu start to be everywhere.
So much so all the major shopping complexes the LRT stations and the trains now have more Melayu.
