RE-WRITING THE HISTORY OF MALAYSIA WILL REKINDLE BAD INTENTIONS OF THE IMMIGRANTS AND PUT THEM IN THE RIGHT SPOT IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTRY.

…IT CAN ALSO CAUSE THEIR DESCENDANTS TO FEEL ASHAMED AND REMORSEFUL.

HOW FAR BACK IN HISTORY DO THEY WANT MALAYSIANS TO LOOK AT?

THE ICE AGE? THE STONE AGE?

WELL, HOW ABOUT THE TIME WHEN THE WHOLE OF SOUTHEAST ASIA WAS UNDER HINDU OR BUDDHIST INFLUENCE BEFORE THE WHOLE COUNTRY AND REGION REVERTED TO ISLAM?

However, the Chinese and Indians in Malaysia today only want to start writing about the history of the country when they had already been seconded and fully supported by the Melayu, so they want themselves to be collaborators for the development of the country.

They want and insist that Yap Ah Loy had ‘founded’ Kuala Lumpur but without mentioning his nefarious commercial activities around gambling and vice and the triad for without which he and the other wealthy Chinese towkays could not succeed and survive.

If indeed he had done so, surely, he would not have called it by this name. He would definitely want to call it by any Chinese name.

One doubts it if he could speak Melayu at all, and could never be able to say ‘Kuala Lumpur’ and knowing what it means.

The name Kuala Lumpur was and still is a very difficult word for many Chinese and Indians to pronounce; what more for the Chinese in 1873.

In fact, most of the Chinese in Malaysia today can’t even pronounce the word Merdeka properly; they call it ‘Menteka’ which is gibberish.

But do the Chinese and Indians in Malaysia dare to deal with real history, and go back to the time when the whole of Tanah Melayu or Malaya as the English called it, was under Hindu or Buddhist influence?

And do they want to find out why and how the Melayu then rejected these two ancient religions?

Their skin will crawl if they know why the Melayu then rejected them and embrace Islam instead, which spread like wild fire throughout Southeast Asia, except for Bali and some other islands which were and are still isolated and not well populated.

If the Chinese and Indians are not brave enough to deal with the history of Malaysia and of the other countries in the region, then they should not try to talk about history – their own versions of it.

They have their own versions of the history of Malaysia and of how their ancestors had come to the country.

But they are the sick and highly inaccurate versions.

So they are in perpetual self-denial, of not being able to accept historical facts. They aim to distort them and recreate new ones, which are totally meaningless.

They also want to highlight the virtues of some of their own kinds and proclaim them as heroes of the land, when they were never such persons.

They are at the most side-kicks for the major Melayu leaders, who crowded around Tunku Abdul Rahman, because Tunku was forced to tag them along to the independence discussions with the British officers at Lanceister House, London in 1956; or else the British would not offer the return of Malay or Tanah Melayu to the Melayu then.

So when can then go on to write about how Hinduism and Buddhism were expelled by the people whose ancestors had long become strong adherents of the two religions?

I doubt it if this can happen. It will cause many Chinese and Indians to squirm. This, they cannot afford to do especially when they realize how their population is shrinking. The amount of shrinking correlates to the amount of squealing that some of the more vocal Chinese and Indians are making each day, on all sorts of issues.

They try to arm-twist the Melayu but they don’t realize that they are the ones who will be elbowed out when they turn around to discover that everybody around them are not like them, but who are Melayu who have converged to the city and town centers where they were once sparse and so few in between.

It is sad that the highlighting of the ancient temples in Jawa and Cambodia has not created the right impact on the Chinese and Indians in the country.

They are meant to inform and remind them how Malaysia and the other countries were once under Hindu and Buddhist domination. But they are not anymore.

The monuments, temples and mega-temples of Borobudur, Prambanan and Angkor Wat were left to decay until they were rediscovered by western colonial officers with Stamford Raffles discovering the Borobudur in 1818.

They are now mere tourist destinations and not functional temples for the Hindus and Buddhists even for those living in those countries except for Borobudur which is still being used by the Buddhists there for their annual celebration.

In fact, some 20 January, only at the Batu Caves Hindu temple complex there is the Thaipusam festival. In the other countries in the region, such a celebration of this size and nature is not held, even in Indonesia where there is a sizeable number of Indians still.

There is nothing noble that anyone can think of in the acts of the Chinese and Indian immigration to Tanah Melayu.

They were not invited by the Melayu. The Melayu were doing okay relating with each other from other lands throughout the region, until the lands were fractured to form countries under the auspices of the European superpowers then who were mostly Catholics or Christians.

The Chinese and Indians were brought into Tanah Melayu by them.

This is how the re-writing of the early history of Tanah Melayu or Malaya must start. And it is not a comfortable spot for the study of it to start from as the subsequent episodes are no better.

And they mostly deal with the way their ancestors and themselves have been treating the Melayu who are charitable and kind to them, or else their ancestors would not have been allowed to come to the country.
